oh my...there's really quite a lot to talk about..and i dont know if i can remember everything lor..but nevertheless i shall try to blog about it as "completely" as i can. today is officially the end of SOW, and somehow..i felt a bit sad at the end of the camp, maybe because soon after that lectures will start and we will be really busy...
the SOW camp is divided into first and second stayover..at first i planned to go with alicia, but in the end she decided to withdraw and attend her hall orientation instead, which is the one that sy joined too. i was debating whether to join SOW or not, because i would be alone, and that is kinda daunting to me..plus, we were supposed to sleepover in lecture theatres and bath with pails in the toilet, and i don't have sleeping bag. in the end i decided to go for it, as i feel that joining orientation might have more pros than cons, and even if i did not join i would have just rot in my room also, waiting for lectures to begin. i didnt regret my decision to join SOW. hmm..now that i think of it, part of the reason i joined SOW is because i wanted to know more about the bidding system implemented in NUS. i was scared that if i go ahead and bid on my own, i ll make mistakes which can have drastic effects.
okay...first day of camp, went to register and pay for camp fees (it's $40 btw, quite okay compared to hall orientation which costed like $160?). i sat alone by myself, nervous that i wont be able to make friends easily. ppl who sat beside me did a quick intro of themselves, which made me feel more at ease, but still i didn talk to them cause i dont know what to talk about. after all of us arrived, our ogls brought us outside the LT to play some ice breaker games. as usual, start with introducing our names, then played a game in which you have to name all the people in the group. there were around 15 of us, luckily i managed just ok...hahaha...but nvm, after this whole camp, i can look at their faces and call their names correctly liao. afterwards played some more games, with all of us sitting in a circle. i think those games are very singaporean-ish lor...hahahahaha..i had to learn how to play, as the rest of my og mates are locals and they knew almost all the games. then lunch time came, each was given a fan he, containing fried chicken wing, cabbage and rice. i personally think the fan he not that nice, but i guess cant complain so much since we only paid $40? oh..and what is orientation without cheering?? learnt some cheers to support our OG (mine is scooby doo), defend our OG or attack other OGs...you know cheering will strain throats right? and those bloody fan he we ate, they are either spicy (like curry chicken wing, curry cabbage) or fried (fried fish fillet, fried tofu) and somehow all the vege we got always cabbage only..
afternoon i have to meet up with my gugu, so i told my ogl that i had to leave for the afternoon. and i actually dont plan on sleeping over in LT, i planned to sleep in my own room and go back early tomolo morning. so when my ogl called to ask me when i ll be back, i kept dragging the time...plan to pon by saying i dont have sleeping bag, but then my ogl said she had one to lend me, and told me to just come back. i have no choice but to go back lor...i went back thinking activity for that day is over already, who knows they are still playing station games. omg...when i got back i terus kena pulled to play "fear factor", where i was blindfolded and have to guess what i m touching. first station was jelly, i guessed correctly. second station is to reach into a black box and take out a marble. the thing is, i m blindfolded and there are frogs inside the box!! omg...now that i think back, it was a wonder that i didnt feel afraid. a frog jumped onto my palm and i took it out, resulting in the senior yelling for me to put it back in. hahaha...how shud i know i m not supposed to take it out right? when all he said was for me to take out a solid thing..nan dao the frog not solid meh? tuing..
and because i missed the whole afternoon, i didn reli feel very bonded with my og mates...it was evident that they were much more closer already, so i felt like an outcast. luckily i knew someone from the faculty briefing i attended who is also in my og. so i talked to her more lor...and i was told that i was lucky to have gone back at tat time, shud i be any earlier, i would be putting my hand in a container of cockroaches for 10 sec!! or i would be given a handful of mealworms to hold. phew..so i was quite lucky i guess...but still i had an encounter with mealworms afterwards, i had to use my mouth to pick out a clothes peg from a container full of mealworms. another station game is playing indian poker/broker where all teams take turns to add gross ingredients into a cup and the loser team had to drink it up. gross ingredients including chilli sos, tomato sos, mayo, celery, onion, ginger, garlic, herbal tea...luckily we din lose..hahaha..another station is trivia quiz, and i m happy to say our team won that too!!
then night time we had a SP session (SP=secret pal). girls and guys are blindfolded and led to each other to interact for about an hour. i felt awkward lor...and my sp lied to me saying he's a freshie when he's apparently a senior!! i can see the yellow color senior shirt thru my blindfold lehh..but of cos i din let him know either..he left early due to some reason so i joined another sp group. i din like SP lor..but because our camp is sponsored by Singapore Development Board we have to do it to please the sponsors..hahahaha..because birth rate in Sg too low liao, they wanted to boost it by being matchmakers?
activity ended only around 12-1am..and we trotted off to the toilet to bath. as i showered during the afternoon in my own room before meeting my gugu, i just showered without washing hair cause i din sweat at all. but then i was only given one pail, dont think it's enuf for me to wash hair n body also lor...first time sleeping in a sleeping bag, and was frozen awake during the night...because LT is damn cold!! woke up around 7am+ and breakfast was bread with kaya or nutella. each OG was given 2 loaves of bread.
2nd day was the start of bidding rounds, so we were brought to computer labs to bid for our modules. after that is the wet games!! i didnt get too wet, because i missed some of the games again due to the fact that i had to leave to collect my student pass. when i got back to join them they were already wet. eventually i got wet also...we played wet version of hai dai quan, and also supporting a bucket full of water with our feet while lying down and playing sevenUp. another game is to find a guy partner, carry a sponge between our backs, walk a distance and squeeze the water into a bottle. the last station is also finding a guy partner, back to back, and we were both doused with water,again carrying a water bomb between our back and we had to play 1 2 3 mu tou ren opposite another OG. and upon reaching the end point we were supposed to transfer the water bomb into the empty pail without bursting the bomb, and also squeeze the water from our clothes into the pail. so the team with more water bombs and more water in the pail wins!! guys just took off their tops and squeeze water from them. all the way along the station games we have to cheer for each station master..but since i missed twice, i dont really know the cheers very well, espc the new ones..so i just hun shui mo yu only..hahahaha...
after the wet games we had mass dance, initially got a hard time trying to catch up, cause i din learn the first part. but it was quite fun after i got the hang of it. my dance partner is really funny lor...cant help but keep laughing while dancing with him. and maybe it's because he reminds me of my cousin, so i feel more at ease with him. after the dance he solemnly shook my hand and said "lifetime dance partner"...hahahahaa...so since that time, if got activity or games need partner he auto become my partner lor...his laugh very weird de lo..but funny..
then night time we had another SP session (SP=secret pal). this time my SP confessed to me that he lied about him being a freshie, and that he left early that day because he had to help with float. and then we were joined by another guy, so there were 3 of us chatting, less awkward i feel, but i suspected that i was the only one blindfolded lor..the other 2 seniors arent.hmph...guess what we talked about? we talked abt how rich brunei is..and how boring brunei is..sigh...i was asked what we do after 5pm everyday?
again sleep late, notice that during SOW i only slept for a few hours only..and sleeping bag isnt the most comfortable thing to sleep in..u can imagine me with my dark eye circles.but then, i dont feel lethargic though, still have semangat for the activities they lined up. hahaha...next day breakfast was nasi lemak (see?spicy food again, by that day our ogl's voice a bit off liao...she bought pipagao and told us to take one tablespoon each). the activity for the day was "amazing race NUS", i tell you it almost killed me..omg...long time din do such strenous activity liao lo...and they all wanna run somemore...by the end of the day my thighs got small purple dots like O CEH..but they dont hurt like the usual O CEH...hehehe...amazing race amazingly we finished 2nd!! hahahahaha...
that night was SP dinner, movie and fright night. identities were revealed, and you know what? my SP's name is called yeehong eh...lol...sama macam mr P..did i mention he's got gf liao?he was telling me how he knew his gf thru sp session during the last session we had. oh, we had to exchange gifts, i got him a bar of cadbury choc, he got me a small winnie pooh plush toy. but to be honest, i dun reli care for the soft toy lor..i rather bring home the choc myself...hahahaha...then it was movie afterwards..dinner is just buffet, not that nice...anyway, we watched several movies, one being a walk to remember, another being 50 first dates...we were waiting for time to pass so that we could go for the fright night..and because my SP was so bz with float he left again halfway thru..i kinda slept thru the movie session..cos it was reli boring and i was tired..
so skip to the fright night, i think the aim is to la jin the gan qing between SPs lor..like girl will be scared n cling to guys...or vice versa...hahaha...so my SP and i went to level 4, and i was laughing all the way through....hahahaha...i dunno why i dun find it scary at all, just very funny...i even recognised one of the "ghosts" was my ogl!! i heard some girls cried after emerging from the haunted "house". after that my SP left again for float and i was left alone once again. waited for time to pass so we can go back and berkumpul at the LT..then bersurai and went back to respective LTs to sleep. it was tat nite i realised i had 15 miss calls on my phone..5 from val, 10 from my parents.but it was 2am oredi so i din bother calling back. neither did i realise that i forgot to tell my parents i was staying overnight in skul, so they were worried about me when they couldnt reach me or see me online for 2-3 days..heard tat my dad was pretty angry about it...
next morning the plan was to go sentosa, but i didn't want to and i was really tired, so i opt out. went back to pgp, put down my stuffs and crashed till 4pm in the afternoon..moved to my actual room that day itself, with the help of sy and his gang...hahahaha...
that's the first stay over of my SOW camp. i shall stop here and blog about the second stay over later...
